About our group | Mō te roopu 

 

Compliance, monitoring and enforcement is an integral part of the EPA’s work to protect the environment and the health outcomes of New Zealanders. Activities undertaken by the CME Group sit alongside decision-making and engagement and are fundamental to the overall strategic direction of the EPA.  

 

The Compliance, Monitoring and Enforcement Group helps everyone – from small businesses to big organisations - understand and comply with environmental regulations to help protect communities, the environment and people. 

 

We do this through educating, engaging, monitoring and investigating, and taking enforcement action when necessary. This approach benefits the environment, the economy and communities, and means we can focus our resources (including our enforcement powers) on tackling the most important environmental issues. 

 

Our multi-disciplinary team of compliance, monitoring and enforcement officers work together, supporting each other to carry out this essential role in maintaining and upholding New Zealand’s environmental regulatory regime for the good of all of Aotearoa today, and for future generations. 

 

 

About the role | Mō te tūnga  

 

This role is based in our Wellington office. While we're happy to consider work-from-home arrangements, this role is not designed for full-time remote working.  

 

As our Senior Advisor Reporting and Assurance, you'll play a key role in strengthening how the Compliance, Monitoring and Enforcement (CME) Group measures, reports on, assures and continuously improves its performance. You'll lead enterprise-wide reporting and assurance activities that provide confidence in the quality, consistency and impact of CME's work, while developing and maintaining reporting frameworks, quality assurance systems and governance processes that support operational excellence, accountability and informed decision making. Working across the organisation, you'll help build assurance capability, drive continuous improvement, and ensure CME's reporting clearly demonstrates the value, outcomes and impact of our regulatory activities. 

 

A typical day could see you developing performance and governance reports, analysing operational data and trends, coordinating assurance reviews, providing quality advice to leaders, or working with subject matter experts to translate complex regulatory information into clear and meaningful insights. 

 

About you | Mōhou ake  

 

We are looking for someone with a range of skills and experience – if you have some or all of the below, we would love to hear from you. 

 

  • experience leading or contributing to reporting, assurance, governance or performance functions within a complex organisation 

  • strong report writing skills, with the ability to translate technical, scientific or regulatory information into clear and accessible insights 

  • experience developing, implementing or improving quality assurance processes, frameworks or systems 

  • excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to draw meaningful conclusions from data and information 

  • confidence working independently while influencing and collaborating across teams and organisational boundaries 

  • strong relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills 

  • a high level of attention to detail and commitment to delivering quality outcomes 

  • experience working in central government, local government, regulatory or public sector environments.

Salary range 

 

$90,801 - $136,201 per annum (midpoint $113,501).  

 

This is the full salary range of the band, from 80% - 120%. Appointments will generally be made at or below the midpoint of this range, depending on skills and experience.
