About our group | Mō te roopu 

  

The purpose of the Hazardous Substances & New Organisms Group is to manage consent application and reassessment processes.   

  

This role includes providing advice and support to applicants and delegated decision makers, and to conduct delegated decision making for the manufacture and import of hazardous substances, the import or release of new organisms; the reassessment of hazardous substances; the import and export of hazardous waste and ozone depleting substances; liaison with a range of stakeholders (including submitters, applicants and other government and international agencies) on statutory decision making.  

  

About the role | Mō te tūnga  

  

We are looking for an experienced, skilled, and enthusiastic toxicologist to help us evaluate applications for the import, manufacture, and reassessment of chemicals used in New Zealand, as well as providing support and expertise across the wider team and the EPA in carrying out our statutory functions. 
  

In this role, you will need to have a focus on time management, quality, and have an eye for detail, as well as being able to support a positive, collaborative, and professional team culture. 

  

About you | Mōhou ake  

  

We are looking for someone with a range of skills and experience – if you have some or all of the below, we would love to hear from you. 

  

  • A post graduate qualification in the field of toxicology 

  • Demonstrated ability to understand complicated scientific concepts, judge their validity, and provide advice on them 

  • Proven track record of toxicology experience, particularly experience within a regulatory and/or industry environment  

  • Appreciation of customer service being key to our role as a proactive regulator 

  • Ideally, you will have an expert knowledge of chemicals or agrochemical regulations and enjoy working collaboratively as part of a team.  

  • Have the ability to work and deliver, under pressure, set priorities, and achieve results in tight deadlines

Salary range    

  

$100,779 - $151,169 per annum (midpoint $125,974).  

This is the full salary range. Appointments will likely be made at or below the midpoint of this range, depending on skills and experience. An appointment at the midpoint assumes 100% competency in the role, with the full band covering a range of 80% - 120%.
